Valentine’s Day is Coming
This Valentine’s Day will be unlike any before for me. Last Valentine’s day was spent smack dab in the middle of the hustle and bustle of a local floral shop, designing arrangements until I could barely keep my eyes open. By the time Valentine’s Day was over and done, so was my back, my feet and my fingers. I am pretty sure I slid into a mild coma after a very long week with little to no sleep. This year will be completely different in all the best ways. I will be spending this Valentine’s Day as a self-employed florist and designing with intention using some of my very favorite blooms.
Coming into the new year as a brand-new business, we were unsure if we would be ready to take on the demands of Valentine’s Day. But we had so many people reach out and inquire about placing orders that we decided to just go for it! So, this year we have been taking pre-orders for Valentine’s Day well in advance so that we have time to plan and prepare to design some really amazing things. But the icing on the cake was being invited to take place in a pop-up Valentine’s Day event at the cutest local boutique! This is going to be such a wonderful opportunity to share my love of flowers and floral design with the community and to meet so many new wonderful customers.
This year my inspiration for Valentine’s Day has been everything pink and peachy! I absolutely love this color combo, how playful and whimsical it can be. Normally you think of Valentine’s Day and you think RED, red roses, red hearts, red candy, red red red! But I wanted to get as far away from that as possible this year. I’m not saying that I dislike red by any means. I love a deep, dark and moody bouquet. The way those deep burgundies and red almost black petals can create an ultra dramatic and luxurious esthetic. But, I wanted to highlight the light, flirty, and more playful side of Cupid! AND, not only is this color palette perfect for the love interest in your life, but also for any gal pals you want to surprise with a super cute “Galentine’s Day” arrangement.
It is not only the color palette that I am excited to play with, I am also really excited to play with some of my favorite flowers. I have an obsession with sweet peas, I wish I could grow nothing but sweet peas! They are so airy and delicate and have the frilliest little petals. I love just placing a handful of sweet peas in a vase by themselves and enjoying their beauty and aroma. So obviously, sweet peas are going to be something I will be including in my Valentine’s Day arrangements. Their fragrance is absolutely incredible and their vase life is pretty impressive, I think they’re going to be a big hit! Another flower on the menu this year is definitely going to be ranunculus. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t love these sweet little blooms and their bountiful delicate petals. They make the perfect addition to any arrangement and could easily play the role of a leading lady in addition to a perfect supportive role. Just like the precious sweet pea, the vase life of ranunculus is outstanding. I have once had a vase of ranunculus adorn my coffee table for well over 10 days with the only work on my part being changing the water every other day. They are adorable, long-lasting and perfect in every way and will definitely have a spotlight on them this holiday. There are of course going to be some other very lovely blooms accompanying the sweet peas and ranunculus, but you will have to wait for the big reveal at our pop-up!
