Dreams Really Do Come True
Many years ago, there was a seed planted in my mind and it has finally set roots and bloomed into Poppy Leigh Floral Co. Working with flowers and out in nature has always been a dream of mine and with the love and encouragement of family and close friends, it has become a reality. I am a Farmer Florist, I still have to pinch myself sometimes because I truly am living my dream.
Not only do I get to design for lovely couples on their special day and create stunning arrangements, I also get to grow my own flowers. I get to spend most of my days working outside in the fresh air with my hands in the ground and blue skies above me, surrounded by all the beauty that nature has to offer. I get to play a role in a beautiful couples magical day with my love and passion for flowers and floral design. I get to help spread joy and happiness to others in the form of flowers and it will never get old. Seeing the smiles spread across peoples faces as they gaze at the beautiful blooms and take in the amazing aroma of organically and sustainably grown flowers is a sight to behold.
I will be the first to admit that our day to day is not always filled with sunshine and butterflies. There is a lot of hard work, planning, and very long hours that goes into what we do. But we get to do all of that knowing that we are pouring our time, love, and energy into something we believe in and gives us the opportunity to spread more beauty out into the world.
In our first season of growing, we are going to be testing the waters and doing a lot of trial and error to find what grows well for us, what we enjoy growing, and what our customers love. But the biggest challenge will be getting our timing down to grow in the fast approaching and notoriously hot and humid Texas weather. Spring for us lasts a couple of weeks to a month if we’re lucky and summer lasts FOREVER.
We have already faced a few challenges being new to growing things in such large quantities, but we are learning so many things as we go and taking things in stride. We have already had many people in our community with farming experience reach out and give us advice and a few pointers that have helped out so much and we truly appreciate it. We have high hopes for our first year and can’t wait to have our first harvest to share with all of you!
In our next blog post, I will be giving you guys a more in depth look at what we will be growing this year, what we hope to grow next year and of course all of the lessons we have been learning along the way. And boy, have there been a lot! I once had someone tell me that when we get uncomfortable, we are learning and creating opportunities for growth. We are challenging ourselves to do things we have never done before, achieve things we have never achieved. And I have never felt that statement in all its truth more than the past couple of months. So we are getting very acquainted with the feeling of being uncomfortable. We are welcoming new challenges and opportunities for learning some big lessons in this new chapter.
This is just the beginning, and we have so much more to come. To everyone who has shown their support and excitement for our big adventure, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. The kind words of love, encouragement, and excitement have been the most comforting thing for us as we step out into the unknown. You’re the reason we are doing this and we wouldn't be here without you, so thank you, thank you, thank you!
P.S. Stay tuned for updates on the farm and info on upcoming events!
